Our Academics
Classroom
We have 10 classrooms in all (Class 1) Infant 1, 2, 3, 4, 4 1 and (Class 2) 2A, 2, 2B, 2C, 2D & 2E. Class 1 consists of 1 three-year-old class and 4 four-year-old class. Class 2 consist of 5 Classes of 5-6-year-olds. There is 1 Teacher to every class inclusive of a Teacher Assistant/Caregiver.
Literacy
A time is set aside each day for Literacy. We hav e Jolly Time where classes focus on Jolly Phonics. We are using this programme to enhance reading. We want to ensure that our students are reading before they transition to Primary school.
Library
Students are scheduled to come in for Library sessions every week. This is done by the Intervention teacher. Students have their own Library Cards and they get to borrow a book each week. However, they must be able to tell something about the book before they can get the opportunity to do a library exchange. Students can also come in and do activities and play games of their choice
Intervention
The program caters to our 'high flyers' - students who are performing above average and 'low flyers' - who are performing below the average of their peers.
Through this program, students are exposed to one on one experience where the teacher is able to meet them at their level and cater to their individual needs outside of the classroom. Words and sentences are placed on the porch area every Monday morning to stir up the students' interest in reading.
Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays the students are chosen from different classes to read over the intercom using the tag line "I Can Read, Can You Read?" This has also stimulated interest as students ask with eagerness to be the person chosen to read.
This year our high flyers were given the task of writing their own books. They did so well we decided to publish the books. They are now known as The Little Authors of St. Joseph's Infant School. The first group consists of 15 students and we hope next year we will be able to continue this program with new students.
Writing
Penmanship is a very important part of our curriculum. We believe that our students must be able to write their names, copy sentences from the board efficiently using correct lines and spaces. They should be able to colour within a given line. Also, we strive to ensure that our students can write their own sentences about a picture or even write their own stories.
Physical Education
Our students have scheduled PE time each day where the teachers have planned lesson where they focus on their gross and fine motor skill which includes psychomotor skills.

All students are places in houses Primrose, Hibiscus, Marigold and Buttercup. House meetings are held every Thursday where they are judged for Theme song, motto, Bible Verse and Cheers. This activity gives them to gain points which goes towards Sports day.
Sports day is held in February where students participates in various field events including football. Our football coach train the boys so well and we have participated and won many football competitions. We have also participated in track and field events.
Mathematics
Our students have always done well in Math. They learn numerals, their names and amounts, they learn basic shapes and colours from Class 1. When they get to class 2 they learn how to do addition, subtraction, greater than less than, the clock, ordinal numbers, and counting by 2s. They learn basic shapes but also 3D shapes and how to mix primary colours to get secondary colours..
